GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and serve mandated nutritional meals to students and or school personnel in assigned locations in a courteous customer service oriented manner. Organize and set up equipment and workstations. Perform duties following health, food service, government and other regulations. Demonstrate proper equipment operation skills. Maintain school nutrition facilities in a safe and sanitary condition as mandated by health standards.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:

- Comply with current mandated health standards.
- Comply with required sanitation procedures.
- Practice good personal hygiene and comply with appropriate work attire.
- Comply with standardized recipes and established food preparation.
- Follow mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.
- Food preparation according to written and oral instructions.
- Evaluate prepared food for flavor, appearance and temperature.
- Inspect food items and supplies for quality complying with mandated health standards.
- Monitor food and equipment temperatures at all times.
- Preparation of meals for individual needs ( diets, allergies)
- Serve breakfast, lunch and a la carte items.
- Handle cashiering responsibilities including food and ticket sales, and reconciliation.
- Replenish food and maintain clean serving areas.
- Exhibit courtesy and understanding to students and staff.
- Perform cleaning and sanitizing of counters and equipment,
- Cleans linens, equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas.
- Maintain required sanitary conditions.
- Setup and breakdown of serving areas.
- Inventory food, condiments and supplies.
- Receive, stock and rotate incoming and outgoing inventory.
- Places stock items in designated areas utilizing temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines.
- Report equipment malfunctions.
- Accurate record keeping of food used and student account balances.
- Attend and participate in formal and informal training.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices.
- Exhibit the professional behavior of a reliable employee.
- Maintain a neat, clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain confidential information.
- Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other foods on a large scale. General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment. Skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment. Adhere to mandated standards, sanitation requirements and safety practices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school staff; able to maintain emotional control; ability to work with others in a close fast paced environment and the ability to address customers in a pleasant, courteous manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate/GED or a level of education necessary for reading and arithmetic for following written food menus.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling,
pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long
periods of time. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to chemicals and risk of injury and/or illness.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
School Nutrition Association Certification, required yearly, offered online for free.
