SALARY RANGE: $18,268 to $40,854
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Assistant work is to provide assistance to administration or teachers in the daily management of the school and or instruction of students. Perform skilled clerical work, typing, filing, prepare and maintain records and complete office assignments. An employee in this classroom is responsible for performing clerical and instructional tasks to relieve teachers of routine activities and to help carry out daily classroom activities. The work involves observing and reporting on the behavior and learning of students. May be assigned to a pre kindergarten, kindergarten or special education classroom. Assist in closely monitoring the needs of children including basic personal needs and physical health. All important aspects of the work are subject to detailed and specific procedures which are to be followed closely.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Instruction Assistant / Behavior Specialist
- Assist in providing individual and small group instruction, as taught by the classroom teacher.
- Assist with instructional activities; reading to groups of students, provide library assistant, etc.
- Help students with special assignments or academic problems.
- Assist with daily routine tasks, such as cafeteria duty, bus duty, money collection, hall duty, etc.
- Help maintain order in the classroom, monitor students to help keep them on task.
- Prepare instructional materials as requested.
- Encourage safety, work and study habits.
- Assist in fire drills and other building security procedures as requested.
- Escort students on field trips and at school, assist in physical and playground activities, accompany children to restrooms and assist with toilet if necessary.
- Maintain bulletin boards, student records for daily attendance, lunch tickets, health charts and classroom supplies.
- May work with students that require individual and close attention.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
- Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students.
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Perform related work as required
Cafe Aide:
- Assist and monitor student behavior during lunch period.
- Assist students in opening and closing prepared food packages.
- Assist in preparation of lunch periods, wipe tables between periods.
- Perform related work as required
Librarian Assistant:
- Assist students with location and use of the media center materials.
- Circulate media center equipment and materials; operate media center equipment.
- Assist to shelve returned books, replace incorrectly shelved books, label and mend books.
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Perform related work as required
School Assistant:
- Perform a variety of office assistant tasks such as photocopying, filing, answering the telephone, take messages and distribute mail, etc. as required.
- Maintain confidential files.
- Order supplies and coordinate printing needs.
- Maintain records of student absences and unexcused absences.
- Call parents if a student is absent.
- Prepare files and records for entering and withdrawing students.
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Perform related work as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching; library and school offices. Ability to maintain confidential information. Knowledge of standard office, library and computer technology equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employee must also establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate/GED. Some experience working with children.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling. Ability to lift 10 pounds.
